Guy Sebastian Axed Teen After He Forgot Lyrics

Emmanuel Kelly eliminated in X Factor Australia competition by judge Guy Sebastian. Emmanuel Kelly won fans after singing John Lennon's Imagine, but later forgot the lyrics to a song during boot camp.

Emmanuel Kelly axed from X Factor

He captured Australia's hearts with his emotional story of returning from war in Iraq and a rendition of John Lennon's Imagine. In the end, though, Emmanuel Kelly, a 17-year-old from Melbourne, just couldn't hack it in X Factor boot camp. Judge Guy Sebastian told the contestant, "Yesterday you were great, today the challenge was not met," after Kelly fudged the lyrics to a song several times during a performance. Singer Wynter Gordon, formerly of the Pussycat Dolls, helped Sebastian pick his top six singers.

Fans stormed Twitter spouting off their outrage that Kelly, who is garnering fame beyond Australia, was axed. One, more positive message came from Yoko Ono, who put up Kelly's Imagine performance on her web site and told the young singer her late husband would have been proud of him. There's hope for Kelly despite his elimination. Perth's Luke O'Dell, eliminated early in the competition, had the original song he performed in his audition picked up as the promo for the new season of Beauty and the Geek.

Some viewers also griped that the twins behind the duo Upfront, who are winning haters by focusing on clowning around instead of performing, made it into the top six of the Under 25 Girls. The sisters, Melanie and Amy Djuric, have made some measure of an impression with their heavy makeup and school girl outfits Britney Spears would have coveted back in the late 1990s.

With boot camp over, the X Factor Australia contest will now really get underway as the Top 24 battle it out for the prize.

Emmanuel is without a doubt one of the best artist in the world, and it isn't just because of his story. Remember Emmanuel, live is full of bumps and your path is never clear. You almost never succeed the first time but the people that gets ahead never gives up, never throws in the towel. I am 12 years old and you moved me with one of John Lenon's songs, you definently have talent.

I don't think he needs the X-factor to find his way in life, maybe he is better of without. He can make it on his own. Bravo Emmanuel, don't give up!!

@Renee - - No, we didn't "get him like that" but we got the monster that did.

Nukka October 21, 2011 | 11:07 PM

It seems like they only pick the people that they have been following the entire time with or without a life story. The guys and groups don't stand a chance IMO and the girls are going to dominate this without a doubt.

wow, some people are extremely stupid. It is evident in these comments.

Bill October 14, 2011 | 7:15 PM

Hey Jack, we know more than the Brits. Didn`t we save their butts in WW2.

Although I am quite honestly moved by his story and the world that he was brought into.... and the fact that he set his sights higher than the norm, I do believe that we must not give a 'pass' to those who are not able to "cut the mustard", if you will. I know I do not have his courage to stand up in front of a crowd, nor do I have ANY vocal talent. But the fact remains that his vocal talent was not as good as somebody else's, and that is exactly why he did not make the cut. Yes, I'm a Yank, but facts are facts. One last comment, if you listen and interpret the the words of "Imagine", you will discover that the problem isn't people, but politics and government. We are all brothers/sisters. "If you can't trust the governments of the world, who can you trust?" -Yahoo Seriously

Reene September 27, 2011 | 7:10 PM

Renee wasn't it America who got him like that in the first place?

doug September 23, 2011 | 9:31 PM

Jack your right, we don't know how to be heartless, that's one thing, hahaha. But no really the contest was fair if he was messing up then he deserved to be treated like everyone else and kicked off. Hope he releases an album!

Melinda September 22, 2011 | 12:37 PM

Someone should have gotten their facts straight before they wrote this - he didn't "return from war in Iraq", he was born there in a war zone. And he could be 17, but he wasn't sure, as he had no birth certificate (go back and watch the clip on Youtube- he says is clear as day).

Jack September 16, 2011 | 12:17 AM

Shut up Renee. Yanks think they know EVERYTHING!!!

Renee September 13, 2011 | 11:38 AM

You gotta be kiddin' me! What a heartless piece of work...Emmanuel come to the USA we think your amazing!!!
