Are Cracks Appearing
In One Direction?

You’d think that five strangers thrown together for 24 hours a day, while living under the constant glare of the media spotlight and fans’ attention, would be living with constant drama and in-fighting. But Zayn Malik, one-fifth of the hit sensation One Direction, says that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“In terms of arguments and stuff, we don’t argue, if I’m being totally honest with you,” Malik tells us.

“We just argue over little petty things, like who’s listening to what radio station and who’s going to sit in the front seat. And even then, we literally argue for about five minutes and we’re cool and then we’re joking about it.”

Ever the diplomat, Malik adds, “I think we got really lucky because no one in the band is difficult to deal with.”

With their second tour of Australia still well over a year away, excited Aussie fans are going to have to bide their time before getting the opportunity to get up close with their One Direction idols once again. But whatever is waiting for them when they touch down, Malik can’t wait.

“When we came back [home to the U.K.] from L.A. the first time, we arrived at the airport in the U.K. and there were a lot of fans there waiting. I had a hoodie on and somebody ripped my hoodie off my head, like actually ripped the hood off my jacket. That was a pretty wild experience,” recalls Malik.

“Do you know what? It’s not that bad at all, it’s just massively flattering. It’s just wicked to see the kind of support and the way people are so devoted, like when we do our signings and people camp outside for days just to get a signature from us. That, for us, is an amazing feeling.”
