Fun. Frontman
Stunned By Success

Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff formed the trio Fun. in New York City in 2008 and released their debut album, Aim and Ignite to little mainstream fanfare.
It's their latest album, Some Nights, lead by the song "We Are Young" with Jonelle Monae, that has seen them catapulted to the upper echelon of the world's music charts.
They're also the first rock band since Nickleback to debut at number one on the U.S. charts, a fact that Ruess finds perplexing.
“For real?” he asks down the line from the U.S. "So does that mean we get to shadow their career? I knew what I wanted when I wrote the song and that was it. I guess I have to write that song a few more times and then people will really start to care about us.”
Ruess is also glad the second single is doing so well and that people are getting into the sound and vibe of Fun..
“I’m a competitive person and I always want to do better than anyone else or better even than myself, but I’m thankful,” he says.
“I’ve been doing this pretty much for 10 years and if this is as big as it’s going to get then I’ll take it, but I would like to think that there’s still a lot more up my sleeve.”
However, the 30 year-old frontman isn’t letting their newfound success go straight to his head.
“To me, it’s about playing a show and having a tonne of people there and having them sing every single word. That’s the stuff that means the most to me," he adds.
"I hope that everybody appreciates the songs but moreso I hope they purchase the album and understand what we’re all about or what my lyrics are about.”
