Adele has had an amazing 12 months! Her second album 21 has become one of the biggest-selling albums of the century, notching up worldwide sales of over 22 million copies, and nabbing her six Grammy Awards. Now comes news that the talented British singer is expecting her first child.

Under the heading of “I’ve got some news,” the 24 year-old songstress posted the announcement on her official website, which crashed due to the high volume of traffic.

"I’m delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together," she writes.

"I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx"

Despite 21 being an album written about the heartbreak over her previous relationship, Adele has found love with ex-investment banker Simon Konecki, the 36 year-old CEO of charity Drop4Drop, whose mission is to "help alleviate the global water crisis."

Controversy erupted earlier this year, when press reports stated that Konecki was still married when he began dating Adele. However, the media-shy singer denied the rumours, stating, "Contrary to reports and headlines in the press today, Simon is divorced and has been for four years."

Her album 21 keeps gunning along, with it being Australia’s biggest-selling album for the first six months of 2012, even though it was released in January 2011.

The singer is obviously smitten with her new man, telling Vogue earlier this year, “He’s wonderful. And he’s proud of me, but he don’t care about what I do or what other people think. He looks after me. I don’t think I would have gotten through the recovery for my [throat] surgery if it hadn’t been for him.”
