Online Haters Come Out Against Band's Cover
Their rendition of the melancholy, haunting track (originally recorded by Oasis when most of the lads were in nappies!) has been both praised and panned since it made its way to the interwebs.
The footage was reportedly filmed on the set of the band's shoot for their music video “What Makes You Beautiful” last year. Taking on the role of Noel Gallagher in the track is Niall Horan, who was just 18 months old when the song initially hit the music charts back in 1995.
Reaction to the cover version has been mixed.
“Well that was hideous,” said one commenter. “I wish these people would stay away from real music and classic songs. Now I have to go and listen to 'What's The Story Morning Glory' to remove the taint."
Another Twitter user wrote: "Can't believe I've just watched One Direction cover "Wonderwall" and NOT bled to death from the ears," while another posted: "One Direction's cover of 'Wonderwall' has just given me morning sickness. Awful guitar playing. Stick to your pop s**t. #talentless"
Die-hard Directioners (the name given to a One Direction fan) lept to the defence of their favourite boy band, with one writing on YouTube, "Stop being so rude to them. they were just having a jam session. what, they aren't allowed to sing anyone else's songs but their own? grow up all the haters and realize talent when you hear it."
Another was a little more intense, posting: "When I read all the comments from haters I have that hate feeling to kill the haters."
Wow!
Whatever your thoughts are, the song is racking up the views on YouTube and everyone has an opinion on it.
