Give Your Home A Lift Within Your Limit!

Is your space starting to feel a bit tired? Are you desperate to breathe new life into your home but don't have a big budget? Here are five ways to give your home a new lease of life without breaking the bank.

Cozy living room

Any interior designer worth their salt will recognise the importance of lighting. A few strategically placed lamps can give any room atmosphere and will almost certainly make a room feel finished. If you have low ceilings, a tall lamp can give a room height. Lamps can also be a great way of adding a pop of colour to a room without painting or buying new furniture. They can also designate "special areas" in your home. By adding a lamp to a table and chair setting, you've instantly created a reading area. There are some very creative lighting ideas on the market, but if money is tight, why not jump on Ebay or scour markets and second-hand stores for a quirky lamp?

Rugs are a very inexpensive way to add a feeling of decadence and luxury to your home -- the right rug can inject colour (if that's what the room needs). Rugs in general look fabulous under coffee tables, dining tables and even under beds. They work well at defining an area as well as feeling lovely underfoot! If a rug is not in your budget, why not consider a carpet remnant? Just head to your local carpet store to see what they have available.

Plants can literally breathe life into a room. Head to your nearest nursery and ask for appropriate indoor plants with interesting shapes and colours. If you're not much of a green-thumb, ask for a hardy variety in case watering slips your mind! If you would rather not have maintenance of a permanent living plant in your home, why not just place some fresh, seasonal flowers in the middle of a table as a centrepiece? Not only do flowers add beauty, but they can really lift your mood.

Transforming a tired room can be as simple as adding new cushions and a throw rug. If you are tired of a particular colour scheme swap it and try something different! Carefully placed candles and vases can also polish a space. You could also browse second-hand stores or markets for quirky items to add interest to a room. Finally, to personalise your space, buy photo-fames and fill them with pictures of your beloved family and friends. This is bound to add a feel-good factor to any room.

Move your furniture and de-clutter

Sometimes all a room needs is a fresh layout. Why not (with the help of a friend) try a new seating arrangement with your furniture. Moving your pieces around and swapping items to different rooms can really freshen up your own space and make everything feel new again. If you have areas of clutter around your home, come up with a system and find a place for everything, including the bin! Make sure everyone in the household knows the go-to place for everything they need on a daily basis. It's so easy in a busy house for things to quickly get out of control, so make sure if things start to pile up again, you make time for another blitz!
